The Shilla Online Duty Free launches ‘Shilla Pay’ for Korean customers

SOUTH KOREA. The Shilla Online Duty Free has launched a new payment service, Shilla Pay, in collaboration with eBay Korea, the leading e-commerce company in Korea. It allows users to pay for goods with a registered credit card or debit card and also by direct deposit. Shilla Pay is initially only available to Korean customers.

The company has been seeking to improve its spread of payment methods to tap into the trend for mobile shopping. It now uses mobile payment systems such as Smile Pay (eBay), PayCo, Kakao Pay and SSG Pay.

The retailer said: “The Shilla Online Duty Free chose to work with eBay Korea to attract new members quickly from Smile Pay, eBay Korea’s simple payment service, with a membership base of 14.5 million.”

Shilla Pay provides more benefits than other payment solutions available at The Shilla Online Duty Free. Users earn up to 0.5% LaLa Cash back on their payments. LaLa Cash is redeemable for cash at The Shilla Online Duty Free.

Paying with a credit or debit card connected to Shilla Pay, customers can earn 0.2% LaLa Cash back and 0.5% Smile Cash back, both of which can be used for a discount at The Shilla Online Duty Free. Also, users of Shilla Pay are offered discounts of up to 8% and interest-free instalments on their credit card payments.

The company is marking the launch of Shilla Pay service with further incentives and prizes.

Customers who shop using Shilla Pay by 30 September can win a pair of round-trip plane tickets to Los Angeles, a one night stay at The Shilla Hotel Seoul, and a two-person dinner at The Shilla Hotel Seoul’s Korean restaurant La Yeon. In addition, all customers will be given with KRW500 LaLa Cash when registering with Shilla Pay.

Shilla Pay users receive a discount of up to 8% on their credit card payments if they spend over KRW300,000 (US$420) by 15 September with Shilla Pay-connected Samsung Card, Shinhan Card, KB Kookmin Card or Hyundai Card. A discount of up to 10% will be offered on payments by Smile Card.

A spokesperson for the retailer said: “The Shilla Duty Free hopes the introduction of Shilla Pay will make its online store users’ shopping more convenient. We are planning to steadily expand the benefits for Shilla Pay users, so this can be a point of difference for our online store.”
