Wines & spirits distributor WEBB Banks, in conjunction with Third Wave Volunteers, is appealing for financial support of efforts to assist the thousands of people affected by Hurricane Dorian.
Last weekend the hurricane unleashed a devastating storm, regarded by many as the biggest in history, over The Bahamas.
Thousands of inhabitants have been left without shelter and are likely to face food and water shortages as the hurricane tracks towards Florida. The Bahamian Prime Minister Hubert Minnis said: “We are in the midst of a historic tragedy. The devastation is unprecedented and extensive.” (Source: The Guardian)
The WEBB Banks plea for help was highlighted by Lois Rosen Pasternak on the Travel Markets Insider Facebook page.
“The situation is dire and requires our immediate attention,” WEBB Banks said in a statement.
“Already on the Abaco Islands in the northern Bahamas, five people have reportedly died, and as many as 13,000 homes were either damaged or destroyed, according to the International Committee of the Red Cross.
“Communication with our friends on the ground has been extremely limited but we continue speaking with them as we can to assess their needs and mobilise support through our charity partner, Third Wave Volunteers.”
Financial assistance can be offered in three ways: Through the Crowd Rise fund (US$16,263 has been raised by 143 people in two days): PayPal (thirdwavevolunteers2018) and Direct Deposit via Third Wave Volunteers Citibank Business: Account number 9145817339; Routing number 266086554 and SWIFT code CITI US 33.

Third Wave Volunteers is an organisation which, since 9/11, has dedicated itself to bringing relief to the world’s worst disaster situations.
WEBB Banks said it was motivated to work with Third Wave Volunteers because of their deep concerns about the increasing number of natural disasters that threaten the Caribbean Basin. The company said Third Wave knows the markets well, having been actively involved in relief efforts in Puerto Rico, USVI, and Dominica following Hurricanes Irma, and Maria in 2017.
“WEBB Banks is committed to matching all donations made in our name up to a predetermined amount each quarter and will be hosting fundraisers throughout the year. As much as possible, they would like to engage the markets and their supplier partners to maintain consistent support so please reach out to Drea@webbbanks.com to learn more,” the company added.
