Thierry Mugler Parfums’ new Alien Aqua Chic and Angel Aqua Chic will make their travel retail debut in March |
The new fragrances will be available in European, Asian and US travel retail from March, before rolling out to Middle Eastern travel retail in April, followed by Latin America in September.
The new scents are said to offer total freshness, in terms of both composition and formulation. They draw their lightness from two levels, according to the company. The first level comes courtesy of the structure, and the fresh accord which has been added to the original composition. The second involves the formulation.
The original edp versions of Angel and Alien are composed of 15% to 20% perfume concentrate, which is then diluted with a blend of distilled water and alcohol to achieve the final solution. Fro the new “Aqua Chic” versions, the levels of water and alcohol were replaced by a hydrosol, derived from distilling some of the raw materials – a process inspired by the traditional extraction method of hydro-distillation.
During this process, fragrant molecules are carried away by steam and recovered in the form of essential oils and residual water: this is the hydrosol. Also known as “floral water” or “plant water”, the hydrosol still contains part of the essential oil obtained during the extraction. This gives the liquid a subtle scent and makes it much more than plain water: it is a “sophisticated water”, or “fine water”. The Aqua Chic fragrances contain 30% floral/plant water, plus a refreshing accord, which gives lightness and elegance to their trail, the brand maintains.
Composed by Givaudan’s Aurélien Guichard, Angel Aqua Chic contains delicate cornflower water, blended with pink peppercorn and lemon essence. This combination lightens the voluptuous patchouli-vanilla base and transforms Angel into a fresh, oriental floral fragrance.
Angel Aqua Chic is presented in a blue glass star, with silver accents. It is available as a 50ml Light Eau de Toilette, and will retail at around €48.80.
Composed by IFF’s Dominique Ropion, Alien Aqua Chic features a blend of ginger water, verbena and freesia to refresh the original’s amber-woody base. It is presented in an amethyst-coloured flacon, and is available as a 60ml Light Eau de Toilette. The recommended price point is around €48.80.
