Time Re:Imagined – Glenfiddich launches trio of ultra-premium expressions

Each of the three whiskies is housed in sculptural casings that represent the passage of time and the pinnacle of Glenfiddich’s distillery style

William Grant & Sons-owned Scotch whisky brand Glenfiddich has unveiled a rare new collection called Time Re:Imagined. The line comprises aged and exclusive single malt whiskies that represent the pinnacle of Glenfiddich’s distillery style.

The Time Re:Imagined line comprises the Glenfiddich 30 Year Old (RRP£900), 40 Year Old (RRP £3,500) and 50 Year Old (RRP £35,000). They are now available in selected stores in global travel retail.

Simultaneous Time: The 50 Year Old whisky was matured in distinctive climate conditions, resulting in a rich and complex flavour

The whiskies have been matured for decades, resulting in rich and complex flavour profiles. The 50 Year Old is the rarest in the line and represents ‘Simultaneous Time’.

It blends whiskies from three different American oak refill casks, before being finished in American oak refill casks for an additional two years.

Only 220 decanters of the 50 Year Old are available.

Special climate conditions during the maturation of the liquid give the whisky a special flavour. The outer casing features bespoke artwork and represents the climate data during the maturation process.

Computational architect Manuel Jiménez Garcia decrypted the meteorological data into an algorithm, which was interpreted in the casing’s physical structure.

Cumulative Time: The 40 Year Old was made through a special remnant vatting process, pioneered by Glenfiddich

The 40 Year Old represents ‘Cumulative Time’ and highlights the layers of accumulated flavours within the liquid. This rare expression was crafted through Glenfiddich’s pioneering remnant vatting process, wherein the remnants of the previous batch are carried over each time and married with selected casks. The accumulation of flavours adds complexity to the whisky.

This process is symbolised in the outer packaging which was inspired by geological metamorphosis. The decanter is housed in a sculptural container and stopper made with Jesmonite; a mineral that makes each decanter unique. The casing features dramatic grooves that represent the layers and evolution of the whisky.

Suspended Time: The 30 Year Old represents the suspension of the whisky maturation process

The 30 Year Old represents ‘Suspended Time’, which was inspired by the moment that Glenfiddich Malt Master Brian Kinsman (pictured above) suspends the development of the whisky to bottle it.

The outer packaging brings this moment to life through moving ribbons, each one frozen in time and forming cut-out windows that reveal the whisky within. The casing’s dynamic lines create an illusion that the bottle is suspended in mid-air.

“William Grant, the visionary founder of Glenfiddich, had a dream to create the best dram in the valley,” commented Glenfiddich Global Brand Director Claudia Falcone.

“These three expressions are the perfect illustration of that aspiration. The Time Re:Imagined collection bottles that maverick spirit and captures a fleeting moment in time which bridges the past with the present. The quality of these liquids has inspired the distinctive packaging that beautifully tells the stories of these single malts and is a fitting tribute to the unpredictable nature of time itself.”

Kinsman added, “In whisky production, we often talk about the role of Malt Masters and it is our responsibility to find the delicate balance between the taste of the whisky and the intensity of the oak cask. But we don’t always acknowledge how each cask, each bottle, is unique because of the time it has spent maturing.

“Both nature and time play huge roles in making whisky taste like it does and Glenfiddich’s Time Re:Imagined pays homage to this process and the exquisite liquid it helps to create.”
