Timex Originals harks back to the brand heritage |
US. Timex unveiled a raft of new watches at the BaselWorld fair in March, returning to its heritage and rich archive in a number of products.
TIMEX ORIGINALS
Launching at BaselWorld 2010, and in-store in selected locations from September 2010, Timex Originals is a collection of vintage-influenced timepieces which celebrate Timex’s 156-year heritage.
Inspired by its extensive product archives, the collection aims to describe the Timex story through design, while delivering a message of authenticity.
The highlight is a striking reissue of a Timex watch from the 1970s. Maintaining all of the design details and signatures which give it individuality, the watch has been reproduced using modern materials and technology to deliver a contemporary edition.
Dial designs from key decades also feature strongly, while Timex has sought inspiration from classic watch faces from the 20th century.
From a pocket-watch in the early 1900s to a ‘Q’ electric watch in the 1970s, via the 1940s and 50s, each of the dials pays homage to its era through type-face, colours, detailing and finish.
In addition, each case and traditional vintage-construction expansion bracelet (and in some cases the leather attachments) has been tumbled to give a time-worn finish and patina. Because of the nature of the treatment, no two cases or attachments are alike, giving each piece its own original identity.
The third category in the collection celebrates quintessentially Timex styles: the Easy-Reader and Camper styles. They have been reinvented for a contemporary audience in a new, over-sized format.
While remaining true to their antecedents, the new watches aim to exude modern relevance and embrace variety through a broad range of classic and trend-influenced colours and finishes.
Key features include water-resistance to 50m and the Timex-patented Indiglo night-light.
TIMEX T SERIES
T Series Racing Chronograph Collection
Two additions to its Timex T Series racing collection were unveiled at the BaselWorld show. Introduced in 2007, the Timex T Series Racing Collection marked the debut of sports-driven fashion watches, the company said.
The new heritage-inspired collection, in-store from September 2010, draws on classic automotive cues, aiming to deliver bold styling.
The Timex T Series Racing Chronograph collection for men has been expanded to feature colour enhancements that aim to illustrate structure and power.
The first all-black watch features a black dial offset by crisp white accents, three chronograph sub-dials measuring down to 1/20th of a second and a red signature “˜T’ sweep seconds hand. The second model features a silver sunray-textured dial with contrasting gold-tone accents.
Inspired by motor sports and precision automotive engineering, the rugged texture of this watch’s leather strap displays a subtle geometric stamped pattern.
Other bold styling details accenting the 38mm stainless steel case include the smooth shape of the two pushers at the 2 and 4 positions and bold grid-patterned crown. Both updates also include a framed date window at four o’clock. Each watch is water-resistant to up to 100m.

Timex T Series Women’s Automatic
The launch of the Timex T Series Automatic Collection for women is designed to embody sophistication and attention to detail.
In-store from September 2010, there are two slightly oversized styles. Inspired by the simplicity of iconic Timex watches from the 1950s, the women’s automatics offer streamlined and functional design in a luxurious silhouette, according to the company.
The collection has a choice of textured leather straps in blue and cream. The rich hues are combined with a stainless steel or rose gold-tone accented round case housing a dial incorporating “singular attention to detail”, Timex said.
The dial is subtly embellished with Swarovski crystals, which form a concentric circle. At four o’clock a subsidiary dial counts seconds, replacing the second hand and offering an individual design detail.
The watch has a 21-jewel automatic movement and polished round, slightly oversized 33mm case as well as the distinctive exhibition case back.

TIMEX SL SERIES
Timex SL Series Annual Calendar
Timex has presented a classic upgrade to the Timex SL Series men’s automatic collection, the Annual Calendar, available in-store from July 2010.
Now in its fourth year, the Timex SL Series is a portfolio of watches paying homage to its sportswear-inspired origins, while adapting to the contemporary man’s penchant for the classic and sophisticated.
The 2010 new Timex SL Series men’s automatics feature a 25-jewel automatic movement, a robust 43mm case with an exhibition caseback, a complicated and multi-textured dial, and is crafted with a stainless steel case.
A contrasting, textured dial encompasses multiple precise sub-dials at the 3, 6 and 9 positions plus an annual calendar. A sun/moon sub-dial conveys day or night. The second and third sub-dials display the day of the week and a 24-hour time indicator. The collection has a signature ‘T’ sweep seconds hand, and luminescent hands and hour-markers.
Fashion-inspired colour variations and embellishments are highlighted this season with the introduction of grey IP and rose gold-tone accented polished finishes. Both styles are available on a leather crocodile-patterned strap with colour-coordinated stitching.
The watch features an integrated sports-inspired stainless steel case and bracelet or leather strap. All timepieces in this series are 100m water-resistant.

The masculine chronograph model is distinguished by its authentic tachymeter turning ring, which sits atop the rugged 45mm stainless steel case with a knurled finish. The watch features a 30-minute chronograph measuring 1/20 second, and is available in a black canvas strap or IP black bracelet.
The Timex Expedition Military Classic watch is distinguished by its striking bull’s-eye design, which provides simultaneous 12- and 24-hour time readings. The 45mm stainless steel case features a knurled finish, accenting the display, which is available in three styles.
