The essence of Freedom, bottled |
The launch of the new Tommy Hilfiger Freedom for Men scent, from Aramis and Designer Fragrances, is being supported by an innovative “Freedom Tour”. The brand has teamed up with Alex Psaroudakis and Taru Tuomi (experienced global sailors and real-life couple) as they embark on a six-month ocean journey around the world.
Their voyage ties in with the Hilfiger brand’s heritage and long-time use of nautical inspiration, and the Freedom fragrance concept of setting yourself free and following your dreams.
Psaroudakis and Tuomi set off from Mustique, the designer’s favourite Caribbean island, in October 2012. The couple are subsequently sailing to Colombia, the San Blas Island, Panama and eventually through the South Pacific Ocean. They will chronicle their journey on the Tommy Hilfiger Facebook page (www.facebook.com/tommyhilfiger), allowing fans to share their adventures and travels.
“I have always been inspired by the nautical life, and I have great admiration for those who embrace it,” noted Hilfiger. “It’s rare to have the courage to literally and figuratively set sail and live your dream.”
Psaroudakis and Tuomi met three years ago in Barcelona, Spain. After knowing each other for only a few weeks, they sold their personal belongings, emptied their savings accounts and set out to sail around the world. “We wanted to free ourselves from the stress and obligations of our day-to-day life,” Psaroudakis explained. “We decided to sail the world at our own pace, travelling from one inspiring place to another.”
In just under two years, the couple have travelled more than 12,000 nautical miles, visiting thirteen different countries on three continents. They departed from Barcelona on 31 October 2010 and since then have visited France, Spain, Italy, Corsica, Gibraltar, Morocco, the Canary Islands, Cabo Verde, St. Martin, St. Barthelemy, St. Kitts and Nevis, Antigua, Barbuda, Guadeloupe, Dominica, Martinique, St. Lucia and Tobago Cays.
