The Index, which has been compiled bi-annually since 2012, is generated using data covering three previous calendar years.

Saudi Arabia has climbed an impressive 12 places in the 2025 rankings from 26th position in last year’s Safety Index.

Saudi, Welcome to Arabia said the Kingdom’s significant rankings climb “reflects its strategic efforts to enhance its tourism offerings and infrastructure”.

“As the safest G20 country, with cities recognised among the safest globally, we continue to prioritise the security and comfort of every traveller. We are dedicated to ensuring that every visitor feels not only safe, but is also embraced by Saudi’s warm and welcoming hospitality.”

Saudi, Welcome to Arabia also noted the country has seen a substantial increase in international tourist arrivals, driven by its successful implementation of Vision 2030 initiatives. This includes the development of new destinations, improved visa processes and enhanced travel experiences.

In addition, the tourism agency highlighted that the tourism sector is playing a crucial role in diversifying Saudi’s economy, with significant contributions to GDP and job creation.

In 2023, 44% of all visitors were women, which Saudi, Welcome to Arabia said proves the country is now a top destination for women and families.

Of those visitors, 36% were solo female travellers – a testament to Saudi’s rising popularity among female visitors, it noted.

The increasing ease of visiting Saudi was also highlighted, with the Kingdom’s eVisa program now including 66 countries and special administrative regions, and the GCC residents visa and 96-hour Stopover Visa.

UK, US or Schengen visa holders, as well as residents of UK, US or European Union countries, are eligible for the instant eVisa.

Saudi Arabia’s growing connectivity is showcased through flag carrier Saudi, now connected to 175 destinations and moving rapidly towards its target of 250. The airline added 14 new international routes in 2024.  ✈
