Travel essentials store powered by Amazon Just Walk Out Technology opens at Philadelphia Airport

USA. Concessions operator SLA Worldwide has opened Everything Travel, a store powered by Amazon Just Walk Out Technology, in Philadelphia International Airport Terminal D.

The travel essentials store – with its slogan ‘If you forgot it, we got it!’ – leverages artificial intelligence to offer a seamless shopping solution with checkout lines eliminated.

With Just Walk Out technology, customers enter the shop using their credit card at the entry gates. The technology detects what shoppers take from or return to the shelves and creates a virtual shopping session.

Frictionless shopping experience: Amazon Just Walk Out Technology powers the new Everything Travel store at Philadelphia Airport

When guests have collected the items they want to buy, they leave the store without having to wait in line, and their chosen payment method will be charged for the items they selected.

SLA Worldwide Founder and CEO Sandra Long said: “SLA Worldwide is excited to collaborate with Amazon to bring Just Walk Out technology to Philadelphia Airport. At our Everything Travel store, guests will experience the future of frictionless shopping.”

MarketPlace PHL Vice President and General Manager Mel Hannah said: “It’s exciting to offer this new, innovative shopping option for travellers at PHL. Checkout-free shopping offers passengers and employees at PHL a quick, convenient way to purchase items without having to wait in line to pay.”

Just Walk Out technology is made possible by artificial intelligence, such as computer vision and deep learning, to accurately determine who took what in any retail environment.

“With an award-winning food, beverage and retail programme, the team at Philadelphia International Airport is always looking for new ways to enhance the travel experience,” said Amazon Vice President of Just Walk Out technology Jon Jenkins. “Opening a store powered by Just Walk Out technology offers travellers at PHL a fast and frictionless way to shop for essentials and continue on to their destination.” ✈
