ITALY. TraWell Co. Group has won a tender to provide luggage protection and assistance services at the Milan airports of Malpensa and Linate. The four-year contract, awarded by SEA Group, commences in December this year. TraWell is a global provider of protection services, baggage storage, products and other ancillary services.
TraWell noted that Milan Malpensa provides an “extremely efficient layout” for the provision of its services, with passenger numbers expected to reach 18.8 million this year and pre-pandemic traffic levels (28.8 million in 2019) expected to return by 2024.
In assessing the opportunity at Milan Linate Airport, TraWell said the airport will be of strategic importance for its business, given its passenger profile of frequent flyers travelling within Italy and across the EU countries.
TraWell also observed that the two Milanese airports together recorded traffic to a combined level equal to the 11th largest airport in Europe, based on 2019 numbers. The company also noted that in terms of baggage wrapping services, Milan Malpensa ranks among the ten most important airport markets in the world.
TraWell Co. Group President and CEO Rudolph Gentile said: “After the renewals of the concessions in Toulouse and Athens in the last two weeks, we are proud to announce the award of the tender for the concession of baggage protection services in Milan Malpensa and Linate airports.
“The return to Malpensa has a double meaning for TraWell – historical, since the Safe Bag service was born here 25 years ago, and prospective, because it allows us to serve one of the most economically advanced areas in Europe, through two strategic airports for the country, which are proving to be able to attract high-quality, international traffic.”
Gentile added that the ‘TraWell 2027 Business Plan’ will be updated at the beginning of 2023, to include the contribution of this latest commercial success for the group in forecasts for financial results.
