TRI-POD Series 5: Up close and personal with Campari‘s Charles Roullet

The latest edition of TRI-POD, The Moodie Davitt Report’s popular video podcast in association with The SEVA Group, features Charles Roullet, Director EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) Global Travel Retail for Campari Group.

Charles has held several senior roles within the Italian drinks powerhouse over the past nine and a half years, all of them travel retail-related.

In this compelling and warm episode, Charles talks openly and insightfully about a career journey that has included senior roles with multi-nationals Colgate-Palmolive, Danone and L’Oréal before joining Campari.

Born in Lyon, France and raised in a “very nice, cozy family environment”, Charles displayed his tennis, squash and DJ skills at High School before moving to business school in Paris post-graduation and later to Staffordshire University in the UK for his Master’s degree.

From “knocking on supermarket and hypermarket doors” in Paris, Charles found himself working for Colgate-Palmolive in South Africa, leading to stints with the FMCG giant in New York and Peru.

The move to L’Oréal eventually gave Charles his first taste of travel retail when in 2012 he became Global Travel Retail Marketing Director for the French beauty giant’s Consumer Product Division. “Since then, I’ve been totally in love with our channel,” he tells Roger and Martin.

Over recent years that love has played out in Milan, Italy with Campari,  a period that has embraced the shock of COVID – “my first P&L as Commercial Director was very ugly” – and a flurry of outstanding activations, launches and other activity.

As always with TRI-POD, we also fly our guest on ultra-low-cost carrier TRI-POD Airlines to our resident desert island (with offshore duty-free status).

There Charles reveals his two favoured duty-free purchases, choice of reading and music, and an intriguing trio of guests he would invite to a private dinner party on the island.

Charles joins the top-class TRI-POD Airlines crew, Captain Martin and Chief Purser Roger. But where are they flying him to?
