US. Tumi, the travel, business and lifestyle leathergoods brand, has entered into an exclusive, long-term agreement with The Murjani Group to market and retail its products in India.
The agreement will lead to the opening of at least eight freestanding Tumi stores in India by 2010, with the first store opening by the end of 2006 in either Delhi or Mumbai.
The launch of the brand in India is in line with Tumi’s corporate strategy of global retail expansion. In 2005, Tumi brought its number of freestanding stores to over 50, with new locations in Houston and Hawaii in the US, and Frankfurt, Germany in Europe. Tumi’s most recent store opening was in the Omotesando district of Tokyo earlier this month.
Commenting on the new deal, Tumi CEO Laurence Franklin said: “Mohan Murjani and his organisation, with over 35 years of international brand experience, understand the opportunity for Tumi in the local market and have a great appreciation for luxury brands. We are confident that this initiative will become a mutually successful and gratifying long-term venture.”
Murjani Group Chairman Mohan Murjani commented: “We are very excited about our relationship with the world’s leading prestige accessories brand whose great quality and design, will no doubt, be highly appreciated by our discerning Indian consumers.”
