Leading travel accessories brand Tumi has introduced its new “˜Dror for Tumi’ collection.
In its first-ever collaboration with an outside designer, Tumi teamed up with New York City-based Dror Benshetrit to produce the 11-piece collection.
Hailed by Tumi as the “pinnacle of design innovation”, the new collection includes hardside cases and soft travel and business bags with eight of the bags expanding or changing shape.
The new hard case carry-on is expandable and zipper-less. Two-wheeled, it allows for four different size options through a two-stage expansion via a “˜living hinge’ which adjusts the bag’s depth and doubles its overall capacity.
The Dror and Tumi design team “˜re-imagined’ Tumi’s signature ballistic textile, developing a new weave that maintains the quality and durability of the original and creates a modern, elegant look in a brown/black colourway. Tumi’s iconic leather patch features a new faceted panel throughout the collection.
Highlighted at the Salone del Mobile at the Museum of Science and Technology in Milan (17-22 April), Dror for Tumi items will be available in selected travel retail locations including the Tumi shops in Frankfurt, Munich, Copenhagen and South Africa and at retail outlets in London Heathrow, Venice and Lisbon airports.

The Dror for Tumi collection includes:
Backpack – This versatile backpack easily shifts to a tote or brief, simply by adjusting the straps to carry by hand, on the back, or over the shoulder.
Messenger – This bag’s “˜look’ changes from slim with front flap pulled all the way down to expanded with the flap in a centre position.
Brief – This briefcase offers two bags in one – a workaday medium capacity bag that slims down to a sleek case suitable for a laptop. It unzips and inverts to change shape, functionality and look.
Crossbody – Small and large, these designs expand and fold flat for easy packing. The box pleated bottom folds flat for packing and opens up for greater capacity.
Travel Satchel – This satchel is expandable to accommodate different travel needs.
Travel Kit – This split design travel kit has multiple packing and usage styles. When opened it can be packed flat or hung from a fixture; when closed it takes on a more traditional shape that fits in packing cases and sits on vanities.
International Expandable Carry-On – Tumi’s first-ever expandable zipper-less hardside, this two-wheeled case allows for four different size options through a two-stage expansion. Its “˜living hinge’ makes it possible to adjust the bag’s depth from nine inches to 14 inches, increasing its overall capacity by +45%.
Four-Wheeled Cases – These hardside cases are in three sizes: a carry-on, a medium packing case and large packing case for extended trips.
Tumi CEO Jerome Griffith said: “In our desire to continuously innovate, we seek a partner with a shared design philosophy who also brings a fresh perspective. Dror’s exceptional reputation for innovative, research-based designs that transform and adapt to users’ needs along with his impassioned vision made him a perfect fit to craft the next generation of Tumi bags.”
