Umdasch unveils top speakers for 2012 retail forum

British star architect David Chipperfield

Top philosopher Peter Sloterdijk

Umdasch Shop Academy has announced the programme and speakers for its Alpbach International Retail Forum titled Stagecraft in Retailing III, which will be held from 11 to 13 October 2012.

The congress, which focuses exclusively on retail presentation, features lecturers from a variety of disciplines – from Peter Sloterdijk to David Chipperfield – and is introduced by Peter Paul Polte.

The event, held every three years in Alpbach, in the Tyrol mountains of Austria, seeks to introduce retail and brand professionals to the secrets and success factors of stagecraft.

The opening lecture on the evening of 11 October will be given by Peter Sloterdijk, described by Umdasch as “one of the most important philosophers of our time”.

On the second day, Karl Heinz Müller, the creator of Bread&Butter, will explain how he revolutionised the European fashion fair scene.

Challenges posed by the “e-volution” in retailing

Branding professional Ibrahim Ibrahim and “top globetrotter” Thomas Lipke will investigate the challenges posed by the “e-volution” in retailing from the point of view of a retail designer and a practical exponent, Umdasch said.

A lecture will be given by Max Hollein, dubbed by Art Review one of the ten most important museum directors in the world, who has recently set new standards with the Städel-Museum in Frankfurt.

Pater Karl Wallner, of the Cistercian monks of Heiligenkreuz, reveals how “Chant – Music for Paradise” hit the international charts and he found himself taking part in Thomas Gottschalk’s popular television programme “Wetten dass”.

Nike Wagner will provide a harmonious link to the evening programme, according to Umdasch. The great-granddaughter of Richard Wagner and great-great-granddaughter of Franz Liszt will use Weimar as an example to demonstrate how to stage celebrations.

The third day of the congress will be a lecture by the British star architect David Chipperfield on “The Staging of the Public Space” in the Kongresshaus Innsbruck.

Finally, there will be an opportunity for relaxation during the chill-out in the Alpenlounge Seegrube, the organisers said.

Simultaneous translation German/English and English/German will be available throughout the event.

Tickets for the programme are available from €990.00.
