Underberg spotlights Brazil with new gift tin and PITÚ brand in Cannes

Underberg, producer of the traditional German digestive, will unveil a host of new liquor products across its portfolio of brands at the TFWA World Exhibition this October (Stand number: Red Village, K19). The company’s products will also be showcased in a hospitality suite at the Hotel Gray d’Albion.

This year, the company continues to extend its brand activities around the Oktoberfest German beer festival theme. In 2011, Underberg participated at Oktoberfest activities in major cities such as Copenhagen, London, Stockholm and Tokyo.

Underberg Gift Tin 2014 Brazil Limited Edition

In 2014 the Underberg gift tin will add Brazil to its “culinary trip around the world”, after its stops in South Africa, Austria and Denmark over the past three years. Since 2005, the limited edition gift tin has featured themes and culinary tastes from a specific country.

Underberg’s 2014 limited edition gift tin highlights the different facets of Brazil on all four sides

Underberg attributes the choice of Brazil to the 2014 FIFA World Cup, which will put the South American country in the global spotlight. Four panel themes will highlight the different facets of Brazil:

Brasilia – Dedicated to the architectural elements of the capital Brasilia built between 1956 and 1960, this panel features modern buildings such as the Cathedral and the “˜Congresso Nacional’ designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer.

Pantanal – The Pantanal is one of the world’s largest tropical wetland areas and is located in the south-west of Brazil. Said to be virtually untapped and sparsely populated, this region is home to numerous freshwater lakes and isolated salt lakes called “˜Salinas’. The Jabiru bird featured on this side of the gift tin is the symbol of this UNESCO world heritage site.

Recife – The city of Recife located on the river Capibaribe is the capital and largest city of the Brazilian state of Pernambuco, and a symbol for the north-east of this country. This side of the gift tin highlights the facades of Olinda (from Portuguese ‘Ó, Linda’ which means ‘Oh, how beautiful’). This jewel of baroque architecture in South America is a reflection of the 17th and 18th century European colonial culture, according to Underberg.

Manaus Amazonia – Located on the shores of the river Rio Negro Manaus is the capital of the Brazilian state of Amazonas. The wealth created during the rubber boom between 1870 and 1910 found its expression in the building of the “˜Teatro Amazonas’, which is featured prominently in the top centre of this panel.

The limited edition gift tin contains 12 Underberg portion bottles.

Asbach

To celebrate its 120th anniversary, Asbach is presenting the limited special edition Johann Wolfgang von Goethe Vintage Reserve 1952, in tribute to the German poet who visited Asbach’s home town of Rüdesheim on 15 August 1814.

Created 60 years ago at the Asbach distillery, the product is based on a select white wine of 1951 vintage which Master Distiller Oswald Rösel distilled in July 1952 using the traditional craft process of double distillation in copper stills.

The distillate was left to age for six decades, initially in small casks made of fine Limousin oak. It then developed its bouquet in larger casks made of German oak in the Asbach Treasure Trove – spicy, aromatic notes blended with mature, wine-like tones as well as with the fine oak.

The limited edition run comprises just 900 1-litre carafes produced exclusively in a Bohemian glassworks. Each carafe features a unique bottle and cask number as well as an individual certificate of authenticity. It is offered with two original Asbach Connoisseur glasses in a box made of wood from the Bavarian Forest.

After the last carafe has been filled, the cask will be displayed at the Asbach Visitors’ Centre in Rüdesheim – bearing brass plates showing the buyers of this refined edition – and auctioned among carafe owners to raise money for charity.

A special edition has been developed for travel retail: The Airport Edition contains a voucher for the two Connoisseur glasses instead of having them in the wooden altar.

Túnel

The Túnel brand is said to be the leading Hierbas in Mallorca and the Balearic Islands, with over 70% market share. Now Túnel 14 has been launched as a premium flagship product for international markets.

Túnel 14 is described as a premium aniseed herbal liquor made with 14 aromatic herbs found in Mallorca, such as rosemary and thyme. It differentiates itself from the core range through a fresher and smoother taste. All herbs originate from the family-owned fields in Benissalem.

Túnel 14 is claimed to be 100% natural and contains no colorants or preservatives. The 28%abv liquor has a warm amber colour and is presented in an eye-catching and distinctively shaped and designed 0.7l bottle.

PITÚ

With the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil and Rio 2016 Summer Olympics coming up, Underberg expects that Brazilian brands such as its Brazilian spirit PITÚ “will be in great demand”.

Hailed as the national drink of Brazil, PITÚ is distilled from pure sugar cane using advanced technological production methods. Each bottle of PITÚ (40%abv) contains a minimum of five kilos of sugar cane.

In Brazil, PITÚ is usually drunk neat, as Caipirinha, or mixed with fruit juices. In Europe, it is most commonly consumed as PITÚrinha – the premium Caipirinha with PITÚ – made using one lime, 2-3 teaspoons cane sugar, a glass full of crushed ice and 5cl PITÚ.

PITÚ has a series of activities lined up for the sporting events in Brazil – details will be released closer to the time.

Amarula

Amarula, made from the spirit of the marula fruit and cream, is now available in a new 200ml bottle – enough to fill a glass.

Amarula is based on the spirit distilled from the fruit of the marula tree, which can be found only in the warm, frost-free regions of sub-equatorial Africa. The marula tree is not cultivated; it is said to grow naturally in this part of the world and nowhere else.

The African elephant – the mascot of Amarula – which roams the savannah plains is said to be renowned for its attraction to the marula fruit.
