SWITZERLAND. Unilever Cosmetics International (UCI) is preparing to unleash a series of limited-edition spring/summer fragrances from its Calvin Klein, Chloé, Cerruti and Vera Wang brands.
They will make their debut from April onwards, in both domestic and travel retail markets.
There are three summer scents from Calvin Klein: ck one summer; Eternity Summer and Eternity Summer for Men.
“We launched ck one summer last year, and it was so successful that we have created a new version for 2005,” UCI Marketing Services Manager Export International Division Hilde Van Den Eede told The Moodie Report.
The (unisex) juice features notes of tangerine and pineapple, teamed with Frangipani flower. It is presented in a frosted orange flacon, designed to evoke the sun. The outer carton is a bright, graduated yellow/orange.
In addition, the fragrance will sport the new-style “ck” logo.
ck one summer will be available as a 100ml edt splash, complete with spray “converter”. It will be priced around -20% under the original fragrance, retailing domestically at £25.
Eternity Summer is the first such seasonal venture for the Eternity franchise. Both the men’s and women’s version have been re-interpreted for summer in pale blue/green sea glass flacons.
The outer cartons echo the new colour scheme, highlighted with a beach rushes motif.
The Eternity Summer juice is described as a dewy green floral, and features hydroponic lily of the valley, violet leaf, jasmine and green island fig wood.
Available as a 100ml edt spray, it goes on-counter in April and will retail domestically at £31.50.
Eternity Summer for Men is a watery fresh fougere. It opens on notes of living melon and wet summer aldehydes, leading to heart of violet leaves and cedar leaf oil, on a base of patchouli and amber.
Also available at the end of April, it will retail at £29 for a 100ml edt spray.
“We will create special merchandise, including shelf-talkers, for travel retail to support the launch of ck one summer and Eternity Summer,” commented Van Den Eede, adding: “We have particularly high hopes for ck one summer inflight.”
New from Cerruti are two seasonal limited editions: Cerruti 1881 Eau D’Été pour Femme and Cerruti 1881 Fraicheur D’Eau pour Homme. Both begin rolling out at the end of April.
The women’s scent, said to be inspired by the linen flower, as the house of Cerruti is known for its fine linen and textiles, is described as youthful, fresh and effervescent.
The heart is a pink linen flower accord, flanked by jasmine and peony. The top notes include apple blossom and freesia; the dry-down musk and Tonka bean.
The signature Cerruti 1881 flacon is re-worked with a green cap. The outer carton features a colourful floral design.
The recommended domestic price point is £29.50 for 100ml.
The men’s version opens on notes of grapefruit, cypress, and juniper berry, leading to a heart of Orris root and nutmeg, on a base of cashmere woods and vetiver.
It will retail on local markets at £25 for 100ml.
Meanwhile, the Chloé Collection 2005 is preparing to make its debut in May. The scent is designed to co-ordinate with the house’s fashion offer, specifically the spring 2005 ready-to-wear collection.
Consequently, both the bottle and the outer carton feature Chloé’s signature “Peek-a-boo” flower cut-outs, in a green and cream colourway.
The juice is said to be sheer, dewy and crisp, and features notes of pear, passion fruit, hydroponic tuberose and musk.
It will retail domestically at £38 for a 100ml edt spray.
Lastly, UCI will introduce Vera Wang Sheer Veil in April.
Like the original fragrance from the iconic wedding dress designer, the scent will be launched into very exclusive distribution, in line with its premium price positioning.
A limited edition, it will remain on-counter throughout 2005 until after the year-end holiday season, according to Van Den Eede.
Vera Wang Sheer Veil features top note accords of Champagne Rose and Lavender Dream Rose, leading to a heart of violets. The base includes white stephanotis, gardenias and white lilies.
The fragrance flacon is the same shape as for the designer’s signature scent, but this time reveals a pale lavender-coloured juice. The outer carton is a textured, deeper coloured lilac.
A new ad campaign has been created to support the launch, featuring a veiled bride and a half-concealed groom.
Vera Wang Sheer Veil is available as a 100ml edp spray and a 150ml moisturising veil, priced domestically at £70 and £30, respectively.
