JAPAN. Increased customer demand has led to United Airlines increasing the number of daily flights between Tokyo and Honolulu to two from 11 June onwards, reports Travel Journal International Online.
The twice-daily service from Tokyo plus the daily flight on the Kansai Airport-Honolulu route will bring to a total of three the number of daily flights available between Japan and Hawaii by the US carrier.
United Airlines Pacific vice president Mark Schwab said: “This expansion is in response to a steady rise in customer demand and builds on our leadership serving the Japan-Hawaii market.”
He added that demand is recovering rapidly in the Pacific, with traffic between Japan and Hawaii reaching the levels requiring an expansion of the service.
Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle commented: “The addition of a second daily United flight between Tokyo and Honolulu is welcome news and another sign of the confidence airlines have in our state’s strengthening visitor market.”
United Airlines has also announced the launch of a daily non-stop flight between Kansai International Airport and Chicago. That new service begins on 10 June.
1.5 million or 21% of all passengers on planes using airports in Hawaii are carried by United Airlines, according to the US Department of Transportation.
