French chocolatier Valrhona has added three new flavours to its Grand Crus range of 16 dark, milk and white chocolate bars.
The flavours of the three new Grand Crus 70g chocolate bars – Araguani 72% (dark chocolate), Bahibé 46% (milk chocolate) and Opalys 33% (white chocolate) – were chosen from the 200 aromatic profiles in Valrhona’s cocoa library.
Araguani is pure Venezuelan chocolate that balances a bitter essence with raisin, chestnut and liquorice notes while Bahibé juxtaposes milky sweetness and cocoa notes with slight nutty and fruity acidity to add bitter flavour. Opalys has a creamy, milky texture that is lightly sugared and has a hint of vanilla essence.

The new bright and colourful packaging makes it easy to distinguish between flavours |
The Grand Crus line-up, including Le Chocolat Blond Dulcey, which launched at last year’s TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes, will also feature a packaging redesign with a new colour pallet, which is said to provide better legibility while still retaining the brand’s colours.
In addition to the new flavours and packaging, Valrhona has also introduced four new gift boxes that feature an assortment of its Grand Crus. These include: Tasting Boxes of 32 Grand Crus Chocolate Carrés in 4×8 dark and milk chocolate squares or 16×2 milk chocolate squares and 52 Grand Crus Chocolate Carrés in three versions – Discovery, Original and Intense.
Also new to the gifting options are the Grand Crus Collection Box, which features eight bars of dark, milk and Blond Dulcey chocolate, as well as Gourmet Brands Crus Box, which features six gourmet bars of dark, milk and white chocolate.
