Vienna International Airport launches innovative advertising concept

From Vienna to the world: Austrian Airlines is using the advertising system to prepare its New York-bound passengers for the journey ahead

AUSTRIA. Vienna International Airport has launched an innovative airport advertising concept under the slogan ‘From Austria to the World’.

The striking video wall at Vienna Airport is designed as a prime marketing tool

The large video wall, 15 metres wide and 9 metres high, is made up of 165 individual screens that currently show five photographs of New York in high resolution. Over 50,000 passengers per day will pass by the video wall, which has been erected adjacent to the security inspection area in Terminal Check-in 3 at Vienna Airport.

Vienna Airport is also marketing this technical platform as an advertising space. It said Austrian Airlines is using the system to get its New York-bound passengers into a mood of anticipation before their flight.

The images were taken by Austrian photographer Lois Lammerhuber, while Austrian digital media company, Ars Electronica, was responsible for the technical implementation.

The airport described the concept, which was shot from the 61st floor of the Rockefeller Centre: “The journey begins with a view down into the deep canyons between Manhattan’s buildings, then soars up and offers a panoramic sweep of the city, switching to a close-up of the Empire State Building and zooming onto various interesting details throughout the US metropolis.

“The atmospheric light of the morning changes into that of afternoon and finally blends into the evening and the night, as the lights come on across the city.”
