Wangfujing Duty Free celebrates festive season with promotional blitz

CHINA. Wangfujing International Duty-Free Harbour City hosted a high-profile event in Wanning on 21 December in partnership with sailing-themed Italian sportswear brand Navigare. The occasion was graced by actor Xiang Zuo and Chinese sailing champion Wu Shifu.

Wanning boasts a 109km coastline, where water sports are booming. As a result, Wangfujing Duty Free is offering an ever-increasing range of sportswear and sports equipment, helping visitors to experience the region’s allure as a destination for surfing, sailing and other water sports.

At the same event, Wangfujing Duty Free also responded to the rising popularity of sweaters among male consumers by hosting the ‘Floral Sweater Lighthouse Lighting Ceremony’, which offers entertainment, lucky draws, dining discount and other activities.

With a new wave of openings taking place in December, Wangfujing International Duty-Free Harbour City will have introduced more than 50 new stores by the end of 2024.

They include famed traditional Chinese medicine brand Tong Ren Tang, which is opening a flagship store.

Fan Town (Juxing Store) will build the first football IP store in South China, bringing together merchandise from more than ten clubs, including Manchester City and Bayern Munich.

Outdoor sports brand Golf is building an indoor golf experience store, while Vibe by the Sea will curate a range of Hainan’s special teas and related merchandise.

The promotional blitz is intended to drive sales through the critical year-end and Spring Festival holidays

Wangfujing International Duty-Free Harbour City is also preparing for the upcoming 15-day Chinese New Year holidays beginning on Chinese New Year’s Eve (28 January).

A Wangfujing Duty Free spokesperson revealed two planned promotions. Firstly, the company will join hands with Eggy Party (a popular video game developed by NetEase) to launch the ‘Egg Party Chinese New Year Shopping Festival’, with a series of activities including a themed parade to celebrate Chinese New Year.

During the holiday period, Wangfujing International Duty-Free Harbour City will also offer 10,000 lucky draw gifts.

Buoyed by a combination of celebrity store visits, the multiple store openings and the government’s issuing of duty-free consumption vouchers with a total value of RMB5 million (US$685,000), Wangfujing Duty Free pledged to create a travel destination that integrates food, accommodation, travel, entertainment and shopping.

This will attract more customers and ensure a strong start to 2025, the company said. 🏝️
