WATCHES & JEWELLERY: Frey Wille makes new dedication to love

AUSTRIA. Viennese enamel jeweller Frey Wien is bringing ancient mythology into the world of fashion with two new collections launching in all its markets simultaneously in September. The designs feature the company’s unique enamel relief method, which has approximately 80 separate work procedures, many of them manually executed, before the final firing – the “Dekorbrand” and mounting.

The theme of the new ranges from the “Greco-Roman” series is based on Aphrodite (Venus in Roman mythology) and scenes from ancient Greek mosaics – “Dolphins of Poseidon”. According to the legends of Homer and Hesiod, Aphrodite the Greek goddess of love and beauty and Zeus was born from the foam of the sea. Her passionate love for Adonis is told in numerous legends. The international artists in Frey Wille’s team have chosen to represent her with the icon of a scallop shell, the symbol used by Botticelli (among others) in his masterwork Birth of Venus.

The Dolphins of Poseidon are shown as messengers of love. In ancient mythology, Poseidon’s emissaries of love took on the form of dolphins. Dolphin riders are a recurring theme in classical art and a symbol of freedom.

Each of the two design sets includes approximately 20 different jewellery pieces such as rings, brooches, pendants, earrings, bracelets as well as the dress watches which the company introduced a year ago. A new advertising campaign to support the launch will portray the classical beauty of Aphrodite, the communicator, shown in repose with gold appliqués of the scallop shell motif.

Prices levels are equal to the company’s other artists collections. The new collections will be on show for the first time at the TFWA World Exhibition.
