The appointment of Arias Salgado comes at a critical time for WDFG in Spain |
INTERNATIONAL. World Duty Free Group (WDFG) has announced the appointment of Rafael Arias Salgado as the retailer’s non-executive Chairman, succeeding Javier Gómez-Navarro, who will continue to serve as a Board Director of the company.
In a statement WDFG said Arias Salgado would bring “deep experience of the retail sector”, having served as President of the Carrefour group in Spain. He was also Minister of Public Works in the Partido Popular administration of the late 1990s.
WDFG currently faces a challenge to its long-held dominance within Spanish travel retail – through long-term incumbent Aldeasa, now part of WDFG – following the launch of a tender across 26 of the country’s airports.
