Wellington Airport promises ‘one-stop-shop’ as it adds four stores to Retail Park – 12/07/06

NEW ZEALAND. Wellington Airport has welcomed the arrival of four new retailers to its Retail Park. They are Supercheap Auto, Noel Leeming, Godfreys, and Kathmandu.

Supercheap Auto, one of New Zealand’s leading retailers of automotive parts, tools, accessories, handyman items and equipment, opened on 24 June.

Wellington International Airport, which carries the tagline ‘Wild at Heart’, said the retailer is already experiencing strong sales and proving to be a popular addition to the incumbents, The Warehouse, Briscoes Homeware, and Dick Smith Electronics.

“So far we’ve received an excellent reception from our customers who’ve commented on the ambience and convenience of this location. They also love the fact that there are plenty of parking spaces in the complex,” said Chief Operating Officer, David Ajala. With over 230 stores in Australia and New Zealand, this is the 34th Supercheap Auto store to open in New Zealand.

Construction is underway for a new Noel Leeming store which will offer leading brands in many categories ranging from technology, communication, whiteware, brownware and home appliances. The Retail Park location is claimed to deliver eastern suburbs customers “a true lifestyle shopping destination”.

Noel Leeming is New Zealand’s leading appliance retailer. The new store will commence trading prior to Christmas and will add to the existing 51 Noel Leeming stores nationwide and two Noel Leeming Connect stores in Wellington and Christchurch.

Godfreys is Australasia’s leading vacuum cleaner retailer, specialising in vacuums, cleaning products and innovations, as well as providing specialist advice and demonstrations of cleaning solutions. With over 150 stores, the Retail Park store is the second to open in Wellington.

“The attraction to the airport location is to cater for the people in the surrounding eastern suburbs who do not wish to take the trip to the central business district and pay for parking. Godfreys will be located next to strong retailers so customers can easily compare prices,” said New Zealand General Manager Simon Greig.

Kathmandu, a prominent retailer of outdoor travel and adventure clothing and equipment, will add another store to its 46 located throughout New Zealand, Australia and the UK. It will offer performance outdoor clothing, fleece clothing, travel and casual clothing, footwear, sleeping bags, tents, packs, and travel accessories. The Airport Retail Park store will also sell Kathmandu’s basecamp range, designed for more stationary camping.

“Wellington’s Eastern suburbs are renowned for their rugged outdoor appeal, and Kathmandu is bringing its diverse outdoor range to all who live there,” said New Zealand General Manager Mark Todd.
