Wellness conference targets travel retail industry – 02/07/09

UK. Inside Out Nutrition is hosting a health and wellness conference focusing on how travel retailers, suppliers and distributors can benefit from ensuring their employees are healthier and less stressed.

“˜Tackling the Stress Factor’ will be held at the luxury Barcelo Billesley Manor Hotel near Stratford-upon-Avon, UK on 3-4 September.

The event will teach delegates how to recognise and respond to the symptoms of chronic stress, which causes or contributes to a range of conditions and diseases from heart attacks and strokes to diabetes and cancer.

The ongoing credit crunch has led to a growth in the cost to businesses from stress-related illness, which account for 75-90% of visits to UK GP surgeries alone, said Inside Out Nutrition. According to a recent UK government report, 13.8 million working days were lost to anxiety-related ill health, depression and work-related stress in 2007, costing the country’s economy over £530 million.

Some of Europe’s leading experts on stress management will give presentations at the conference. Confirmed speakers include Dr Dorian Dugmore, an expert in cardiovascular medicine, who directs a programme aimed at improving the health of England’s 120 football league managers.

Another keynote speaker is champion marathon canoeist Anna Hemmings, who recovered from chronic fatigue syndrome to win three world titles in a row, taking her gold medal tally to six. The achievement earned her the accolade of most successful female athlete ever in her sport, Inside Out Nutrition said.

Delegates will also have the chance to gain an insight into their own health with a free personal health risk assessment worth £100, provided by qualified health professionals. Potentially serious conditions screened will include high blood pressure, high cholesterol and osteoporosis.

“Every successful travel retailer has to be on top of a number of key indicators to guarantee sound performance in difficult times,” commented Inside Out Nutrition founder and qualified nutritional therapist Adele Wolstenhulme.

“Sales per passenger, profit margins and passenger forecasts are just some of these vital indicators, but I passionately believe the health numbers of all individuals in the back office are equally important to ensure operational efficiency and continued growth -everything from body mass index to blood cholesterol levels and blood pressure.

“With the credit crunch biting and jobs on the line, health has never been more important,” she added. “I believe a healthier, happier workforce makes for faster, better decision-making, better productivity, fewer lost sick days and ultimately, a healthier bottom line.”

The corporate delegate rate for attending “˜Tackling the Stress Factor’ is £425. The package includes overnight accommodation and breakfast at the Barcelo Billesley Manor Hotel on 3 September, and a champagne cocktail reception and dinner on 4 September.

A number of sponsorship packages are also still available. For more details visit www.inside-outnutrition.com/health4life.html
