UK. Last week Welsh gold jewellery brand Clogau celebrated the opening of its first UK flagship store, in St David’s Dewi Sant Shopping Centre, Cardiff. VIP customers, brand ambassadors, media, Welsh Rugby Union players, Welsh polo team players and friends of the brand all attended the official opening party, held on 23 January. The evening also included an exclusive performance by brand ambassador and former Royal Harpist, Claire Jones, against a backdrop of canapés and Champagne. The store incorporates a bespoke Champagne bar; going forward there will be monthly performances by a professional harpist.

Chairman and Founder Bill Roberts officially opened the store with a speech thanking his staff and family, including son Managing Director Ben Roberts, and daughter Head Designer Samantha Roberts. The store had a soft opening in November 2013 and reported strong sales over the Christmas and New Year period.

Located in a prime position within the heart of Wales’s key shopping destination, the new store is described as the perfect location for Clogau customers to enjoy the ultimate Clogau experience. Covering around 1,500sq ft, the store showcases almost every single Clogau collection, including a preview of the forthcoming 18ct gold Royal Clogau collection.

Ben Roberts commented: “We’re a very proud Welsh business. Cardiff is the ultimate destination for us to open our first flagship store and as such we felt that St David’s Dewi Sant is the most desirable location. We have been looking for three years to find the perfect location for our flagship store, and are thoroughly looking forward to bringing our concept and store design to St David’s, which will be our shop window to the world.”

The Cardiff store continues the brand’s expansion plans and follows the successful opening of Clogau’s Beijing and Shenzhen, China stores in 2013. In recent years Clogau has established a solid presence in travel retail, notably inflight. Last year Head of International Sales David Butler confirmed the brand was set to further extend its international presence with new openings in the Middle East and Asia.
