William Grant & Sons and Aelia sell first bottle of Glenfiddich 50yo for €12,000 at Paris Charles de Gaulle – 21/09/09

FRANCE. The first bottle of Glenfiddich 50yo to be offered to the public was sold by Aelia at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport on Thursday.

A British traveller bought the bottle for €12,000 (duty paid as his journey was intra-European Union).

As reported, Aelia has a two-month global exclusivity on the ultra-premium, limited-edition single malt whisky, which went on sale at Charles de Gaulle on 1 September.

At the 1 September launch were (l to r) Stephanie Law, William Grant & Sons Business Development Manager; Philippe Lanusse, Aelia Marketing and Purchasing Department Manager, Spirits, Wines and Champagnes; Martin Moodie, The Moodie Report Publisher; and Erik Thomsen, William Grant & Sons Regional Manager Europe – Travel Retail

Only 500 bottles of Glenfiddich 50yo will be offered over the next decade, 50 each year.

Of this year’s allocation, 10 are being offered through travel retail. After Paris, from 1 November they will be on display and sale at London Heathrow, Dubai, Shanghai, Beijing and Singapore Changi airports, as well as through Hans Just in Scandinavia.

The Moodie Report has chronicled the launch from its official unveiling in Dufftown, Scotland to the 1 September launch in Paris.

We’ll bring you a full chronology of this remarkable journey in the October issue of The Moodie Report Digital Print Edition.
