The World Duty Free team celebrate 54 years of trading at Heathrow Terminal 2 on the final day of operation

UK. Today sees the last day of trading for World Duty Free at Heathrow Terminal 2, as the airport’s first and oldest terminal is prepared for permanent closure.

Terminal 2 is to be replaced by the new Heathrow East Terminal, due for completion in 2014, which will be capable of handling 30 million passengers per year.

To celebrate World Duty Free has arranged a number of treats and surprises for passengers travelling through the store, departing from Heathrow on one of the last eight flights of the day.

To honour 54 years of trading, the retailer rewarded the 54th customer of the day with a goody bag that includes a watch, jewellery, travel retail exclusive fragrances, chocolates, Champagne and a cuddly toy.

All customers will also receive a bespoke box of hand-made chocolates, designed and created by luxury chocolatier Damian Allsop.

Alsopp’s chocolates are also being stocked in World Duty Free’s new boutique chocolate store ‘Simply Chocolate’, which has just opened at Heathrow’s revamped Terminal 4.

There is also Champagne on offer for passengers to celebrate the final day of operation.
