UK. WDF today celebrated the official opening of its new airside World Duty Free store at George Best Belfast City Airport.
After winning a ten-year contract extension taking it to 2019, WDF has relocated the Alpha Airport Shopping outlet – which operated at Belfast City Airport since 2004 – and transformed it into a larger World Duty Free store.
Covering 2,126sq ft of retail space the new store offers a larger selection of products and some brands that are new to the Belfast store including Guerlain, Versace, Hermès, Chloé and Cartier.
A recent addition is a 372sq ft liquor area which stocks an extensive range of whiskies – with a strong focus on Irish whiskeys – plus spirits, wines and Champagnes.
WDF Director of Retail Operations Fred Creighton said: “We were delighted to have this opportunity to work in close partnership with Belfast City Airport and help create the exceptional customer experience they were seeking to deliver.”
He added: “When we were awarded a renewed contract at Belfast, we saw it as an opportunity to bring the recognised World Duty Free brand to the airport and give our customers a first class shopping experience, along with exceptional value and choice across all product categories.”
Belfast City Airport CEO Brian Ambrose noted: “˜We had exciting plans for our redevelopment of the airside facilities at Belfast and WDF really embraced those and worked with us to help make them a reality.”
“The World Duty Free store is a bigger retail space and brings a prestigious shopping environment to the airport, along with some great new brands and an extensive product choice, including for the first time at our airport, a range of liquor. We are sure that our customers will love this transformation of Belfast City Airport.”
