Yoshino Spirits releases “extraordinary” Kamiki Intense Wood blended malt whisky

Japan’s Yoshino Spirits has released an exclusive Kamiki Intense Wood blended malt whisky. It is an extension to the Kamiki line, which is claimed to be the first Japanese whisky finished in Japanese cedar (Yoshino Sugi) casks.

According to Yoshino Spirits, Kamiki Intense Wood has been aged longer in the cedar casks to offer a more intense taste.

Yoshino Spirits Global Sales Director Serdar Pala said the company’s aim was to roll out the new expression in travel retail, with negotiations already taking place with several leading players. Kamiki Intense Wood is available to exclusive on-trade and off-trade accounts in 750ml bottles for the USA and 500ml in Europe.

The expression was described as “extraordinary” and the “ultimate recommendation” at the 2019 Ultimate Spirits Challenge global spirits and cocktail competition, where it claimed the Chairman’s Trophy.

As reported, Yoshino Spirits aims to extend its global network through travel retail as part of a drive to become Japan’s largest independent craft spirits exporter. It also plans to become Japan’s leading craft spirits importer.
