Zirh International unveils new way to wear Corduroy – 26/05/05

US. Zirh International (a subsidiary of Shiseido International Corp) will introduce a new men’s fragrance, Corduroy, later this summer.

The move highlights the company’s desire to establish itself as a major player within the fragrance sector, following its success within skincare.

Zirh claims to be the third largest men’s skincare brand in the US, and is now available in over 40 countries and 2,200 doors worldwide, including travel retail.

The company’s core Zirh brand aside, its other fragrance business to date features licenses for international retail chain French Connection, and for menswear designer John Varvatos.

Created by Quest International, the Corduroy juice is described as a fresh, masculine, woody fougère, with crisp top notes and a sensual drydown.

The fragrance opens with a mixture of grapefruit, mandarin, white lavender and cardamom, leading to a bay rum accord, plus cinnamon and nutmeg, in the heart. The base notes include a variety of woods, vanilla and Tonka bean.

The fragrance flacon, created by Chad Lavigne, is a smoky brown bottle with slight waves in the glass that allude to the classic waling of corduroy fabric. It is topped with a shiny metal cap.

The full product line-up features a 2.5fl oz and 4.2fl oz edt (US$45 and US$58, respectively); a 1.7fl oz Roll-On Aftershave Balm (US$30); a 6.7fl oz Hair and Body Wash (US$24); and a 2.6g deodorant (US$16).

Corduroy will make its debut in August, via about 900 high-end US doors, including Bloomingdale’s and Sephora.

The fragrance will be rolled out to selected international markets, including Canada and the UK, in the second half of the year, followed by an additional 40 international countries in 2006.
