Zurich Airport passenger traffic increase outstrips commercial sales growth in August

Sales increases in airside stores and restaurants outstripped growth landside

SWITZERLAND. Zurich Airport retail and dining turnover reached CHF415.6 million (US$488.8 million) in the first eight months of 2024, a rise of +4.5% on the same period last year. Airside sales climbed by +6.8% with landside up by +1.6%.

The growth figures remained below the passenger traffic increase of +9.3%, with volumes reaching 20.7 million.

Airside spend per departing passenger in the eight month-period slipped by -2.2% year-on-year to CHF22.90 (US$26.93).

In August, commercial turnover rose by +2% to CHF55.7 million (US$65.5 million) though spend dipped slightly in the month, falling -1% to CHF21.40 (US$25.17).

The commercial numbers lagged passenger traffic growth of +6% in August to 3.1 million. ✈
