1ABOVE: a pioneering product “designed to fit seamlessly into the travel occasion” |
NEW ZEALAND. 1ABOVE, described as “the world’s first Aerotonic flight beverage”, designed solely for consumption during air travel, has been launched to international travellers at Auckland Airport.
The product, which took four years to develop, was designed to fit seamlessly into the travel occasion and help the well-travelled get more out of their adventures by putting the body in the best condition to overcome health issues associated with flying.
1ABOVE is said to have a unique formulation that addresses the hydration and nutrient needs associated with the specific demands of flight travel. Every aspect of the product, right down to the hands-free pack that can clip on to the traveller’s bag or seat pocket, is designed to fit the flight occasion.
1ABOVE is also sold in a unique way – by duration of flight. It is currently only available at the 1ABOVE airside retail outlet in the revamped International Terminal at Auckland Airport. Staff can calculate how much the traveller needs to fly well and feel great when they arrive at their destination.
Roger Boyd, the creator of 1ABOVE, said that New Zealand is the perfect place to launch 1ABOVE. “Over 100,000 Kiwis took an overseas trip in September 2010. We are a nation of travellers, and we like to get out and see the world. Our relative isolation also means we fly great distances wherever we go, which the well-travelled know can take its toll if you don’t take control of what you put into your body when you fly.
“The product was born from 12 years worth of international travel. I was a novice to begin with but slowly learnt that a great majority of the impact of flying can be attenuated by what you put into your body when you fly. My experience served as impetus to create a product that all travellers could benefit from.”
He continued: “There’s extensive information and research on the impact that proper hydration and the supplementation of essential nutrients like B vitamins and polyphenol extracts can have on the body, especially your circulation. Dehydration is associated with depressed mood, fatigue and a narrowing of the blood vessels, all things you don’t want on a plane flight or at the start of the trip of a life time.”

1ABOVE’s unique hypotonic formulation, which contains no chemical sweeteners and only 60 calories per one litre bottle, is designed to be rapidly absorbed into the body. Boyd said: “By drinking 1ABOVE regularly throughout a flight you’ll arrive hydrated with the right nutrients circulating to ensure you are in the best shape possible. It also contains B vitamins to assist with fatigue, essential nutrients like vitamin C and polyphenol extracts which have been shown to support circulation.”
Boyd said the concept has great global potential. “With over 800 million international flights made across the globe each year the opportunity for a refreshingly simple idea like 1ABOVE that gives travellers greater control of their flight health and allows them to arrive at their destination ready to make the most of their trip is enormous,” he commented.
