Travelex expands its global horizons – 12/08/04

UK. Travelex, which claims to be the world’s largest specialist airport foreign exchange operator, is to add a further 16 bureaux in major hubs.

The expansion follows the company’s recent success in winning contracts in Rome, Amsterdam and Zurich bringing the total number of bureaux worldwide close to 700.

“These three new contracts further extend Travelex’s position as the world’s leading airport foreign exchange specialist,” said the company.

In the coming months Travelex will be opening branches at Rome’s Fumicino and Ciampino airports, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and Zurich Unique Airport. The company already operates in 93 international airports worldwide, and the recent contract wins are part of a company strategy to further strengthen its network of international airports.

Stephan Widrig of Zurich Unique Airport said: “We decided to have Travelex as the exclusive partner for the FX business at the new airside centre as their high-quality offer was both strategically and financially relevant to our business.”

Stefano Mereu at Aeroporti Di Roma (ADR) commented: “ADR selected Travelex, among major international and domestic companies, for their competitive business plan with regards both to financial and to qualitative issues.”

Travelex Regional General Manager Matt Richardson said: “The last twelve months have also seen us consolidate our position in regional airports across Europe with openings at Frankfurt Hahn, Hamburg Luebeck, Paris Beauvais and Newcastle in the UK. These latest contract wins are an equally important part of our expansion strategy and we are confident of adding to them in the coming months.”

At each of the new locations Travelex will be providing a foreign exchange and other travel-related services to passengers arriving, departing and transiting. In some cases, additional services including banking, cash management and wholesale currency services will also be supplied to the airport, airlines and concessionaires.
