SSP wins key F&B contract at Bangkok’s new Suvarnabhumi Airport – 10/05/06

THAILAND. UK travel retail food & beverage specialist Select Service Partner (SSP) has been awarded a five-year contract to operate five units in the much-anticipated Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok.

The new facilities will be operated as part of a joint venture with leading local leisure and catering company Minor Group. Brands that will be featured will include Dairy Queen, The Pizza Company and Burger King.

“This is a significant contract win for the business and reflects our capabilities in providing food and beverage brands to meet the needs of the international traveller,” said SSP Managing Director – Asia Pacific Daren Lau. “We are thrilled to have strengthened our presence in the Thai market and very much look forward to working at Suvarnabhumi as the airport expands”.

The New International Bangkok Airport, also known as Suvarnabhumi Airport, has been built on a 3,100ha site in the Samut Prakarn province of Thailand and will support the overloaded Bangkok International Airport (Don Muang). The new airport is scheduled to open in June this year and following future expansion phases will eventually cater for over 100 million passengers per year.

SSP already operates 31 units in existing airports in Thailand, eight of which are located in the existing Bangkok International Airport.

Parent company Compass Group PLC announced last month that it has agreed to sell SSP to companies controlled by EQT IV. SSP has grown from a 400 employee Swedish business (SAS Catering) in 1961 to a company employing nearly 25,000 people in 26 countries. It was put up for sale last September.
