QATAR. Doha International Airport is to introduce new aviation security regulations from 1 June in line with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) guidelines. These will have a significant impact on duty free sales to Doha-bound passengers at other airports
From that date all passengers flying Qatar Airways and other airlines from Doha International Airport – or transiting through Doha – will be subjected to restrictions on the carriage of certain items in their hand baggage. These will include a limit of 100ml on liquids, aerosols or gels (LAGs).
Critically, the airport will make no exemption for transferring passengers – a very high percentage of traffic through Doha – whether or not the items are carried in a sealed tamper-evident bag. Any LAGs over 100ml being carried by those passengers will be seized at the transit security point.
This means that airport retailers cannot (or, more correctly, should not) sell such LAG items to Doha-bound passengers.
Point-to-point travel will not be affected nor will post-security duty free purchases at Doha International Airport.
