SINGAPORE. Passenger numbers at Singapore Changi Airport slipped by -0.4% year-on-year in September to 2,888,292, despite the influx of visitors for the first-ever Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix.
The month’s decline was the first since 2003 for one of Asia’s best-performing airports, underlining how the troubled economic environment is beginning to hit traffic in the region.
According to local reports around 50,000 visitors entered Singapore for the Grand Prix – mainly by air. Without that influx Changi’s numbers would have looked significantly worse.
For the first nine months, Changi’s passenger numbers were ahead by +3.9% to 27,986,673, spread across Terminals 1, 2 and 3 and the Budget Terminal.
