ACI names new Director for Global Training Hub – 13/11/08

ACI has installed Victor de Barrena as its new Director of the Global Training Hub at ACI World in Geneva


SWITZERLAND. Airports Council International (ACI) has announced the appointment of Victor de Barrena as Director of the Global Training Hub at ACI World in Geneva.

With almost twenty years in the aviation industry, de Barrena has extensive experience in leadership development activities, project management and business change programmes.

ACI Director General Angela Gittens said: “We are delighted to have attracted a professional of Victor’s calibre who will work with the ACI regional offices to assess and address member training needs towards achieving our goal of excellence as the standard for airports throughout the world.”

De Barrena joins ACI from IATA where he was Assistant Director of Human Resources, Leadership and Learning; previous to that he was the Regional Programme Manager (Europe) for the Simplifying the Business programme that focused on a successful transition to new aviation technologies and work processes in a global environment.

De Barrena will take charge of the ACI Global Training Hub, the ACI Airport Excellence Leadership Programme and coordinate joint programmes with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) as well as develop the new initiative for airport staff in the On-line Training Centre.

“My objective is to make top quality educational opportunities available to airport managers and staff worldwide. In today’s airport environment, employees must embrace new technologies and adapt their processes accordingly to ensure that we can continue to meet global safety and security standards in our fast evolving industry.

“Trainees value the heightened skills that the ACI training programmes help them to acquire, with the end goal of delivering high quality customer service in today’s competitive aviation environment. Our team will continue to engage and partner with our clients to ensure we build a centre of excellence within the ACI membership”, said de Barrena.

De Barrena has held various positions within the aviation sector including Project Manager at Star Alliance in Frankfurt, and various customer service and service quality positions at UAL Corporation/United Airlines in the US.
