Troika unveils stylish gifts for men in Cannes – 24/08/09

GERMANY. German company Troika is unveiling a range of gifts targeted at men at the upcoming TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes (Stand number: Yellow Village E30).

Andy Warhol’s Campbell Soup Cans

Troika will be showcasing a line of accessories inspired by the works of Andy Warhol, a leading figure in the pop art movement in the 20th century.

Exclusive to the European region, these key-rings, pens and business card cases will be imprinted with images of Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup Cans, one of his most recognisable and celebrated works.

Warhol began his Campbell’s Soup Can paintings around 1961, and the subject would take various forms in the years to follow. The Feru type of Campbell’s Soup can paintings, which take their name from the 32 paintings of individual cans exhibited at the Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles, are the largest and best known of Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup paintings.

For these paintings, Warhol painted the well-known red and white cans, referring to a product list supplied by the Campbell Soup Company and checking off each type of soup as it was completed.

A later series of Campbell’s Soup cans, produced around 1965, is comprised of 19 different coloured cans. For these works, Warhol not only used ink colours that departed from real colours, but also spray painted the backgrounds and the lower (white) portion of the label in different colours. The result was a collection that was both “unexpected and familiar”, Troika said.

Troika Handwriting Collection

The Troika handwriting collection features writing implements for “people who have something to say”, the company stated.

One of the new designs features a pen cap – with an inside thread – that is screwed onto the end of the pen. The clear contour of the pen with its functional metal clip will then lay perfectly balanced in the hand of the writer, according to Troika. The pens use high-quality German refills.

Super Connie

Super Connie is a paperweight airplane with friction motor and magnet. The product draws inspiration from the Super Constellation airliner – also known as “˜Super Connie’ – built by Lockheed in the 1940s. The magnet is useful for keeping stray paper clips at bay while the friction motor propels the polished chrome propeller plane to travel speed.

Key-ring display for 12 key-rings

Also on show will be a key-ring display that is claimed to be theft-proof. It allows for the presentation of various and changing designs, with bestsellers being defined easily. It can be mounted on counters, shelves and walls.
