GERMANY. Munich Airport and its retail subsidiary Eurotrade last night celebrated the inauguration of a series of new beauty and fashion stores, at a special ceremony attended by over 250 guests, including The Moodie Report.
The units, located airside at Munich Airport Terminal 2 (which serves Lufthansa flights), include Pure Brands, a new 112sq m zone with dedicated spaces for MAC, Jo Malone, Bobbi Brown and Kiehl’s.

Among the other new openings is the first stand-alone Polo Ralph Lauren store at a German airport, in a 70sq m space, plus a re-opened 330sq m unit shared by leading fashion names Hugo Boss and Ermenegildo Zegna.
Munich Airport CEO Michael Kerkloh said the openings underlined his company’s determination to become the most attractive and efficient airport in Europe.
He told The Moodie Report: “This is a significant step towards building an even more interesting offer for our passengers. We already have a strong mix of brands and concepts, but we can always improve, and these brands will help us reach another level, and especially enhance our appeal to the many women who travel through Munich Airport.”

Kerkloh added: “Non-Aviation revenues are 47% of our income today, a figure that has been rising steadily, and retail is a big part of that. Eurotrade as a company is always striving for newness and seeking brands that are not already available at this airport – and it’s a tribute to the Eurotrade team that they have attracted these key brands here.”

Eurotrade Managing Director Hellmut Gebhardt added: “We are seeking qualitative as well as quantitative growth in our business, and these openings, in which we have invested around €1 million, is a milestone. I’m delighted to see these four prestige cosmetics brands at Munich Airport, plus the newly designed Hugo Boss and Zegna store, and Polo Ralph Lauren, which will lend an added dimension to the airport.”
Bavaria’s State Secretary in the Ministry of Finance Franz-Josef Pschierer welcomed the opening from the government’s point of view. He said: “In the current economic crisis Eurotrade is working anti-cyclically and investing in the future. They are showing that the glass is half-full, not half-empty.”
Note: We will feature further comment on the openings plus interviews with Munich Airport CEO and Eurotrade Managing Director Hellmut Gebhardt in The Moodie Report Digital Print Edition for October, out at TFWA World Exhibition.
