Frankfurt Airport City Mall opens with strong retail and F&B offer

GERMANY. Fraport Group has opened a remodelled and expanded City Mall at Frankfurt Airport, including a strong new retail and food & beverage offer. The Airport City Mall connects the airport’s major car parks, regional train station and Terminal 1.

It is located on Level 0 underneath the Departures and Arrivals levels of Terminal 1, extending the full length of the A, B and C Concourses.

The new consumer offer includes 900sq m of fashion & jewellery concepts. The mix is positioned around mid-range price points to target not only passengers but also airport employees, said Fraport.

Among the concept in this zone are:
Levi’s: The area houses the first Levi’s store at Frankfurt Airport in a 130sq m space. The unit offers classic items and new arrivals in the range, from jeans and T-shirts to jackets and shoes for men and women. The store is operated by Levi Strauss Germany GmbH.

Street One is designed to be a value for money fashion outlet targeting young women. The 150sq m unit offers “trendy, easy-to-combine brand name apparel for fashion-conscious women,” said Fraport. The apparel range is rounded out by scarves, caps and trendy jewellery. The store is operated by Fashion Schäfer GmbH.

United Colors of Benetton presents clothing for men, women and children in a 340sq m store, with a luggage line also available. Benetton has implemented its latest shop concept, featuring what are described as warm woody colours and dark rear walls highlighted with bronzed metal. New Ben GmbH operates the store.

Picard sells German-made bags and leatherwear for casual and business use. There is also trolley-style luggage. The selection is rounded out by accessories such as wallets and key pendants. The same concept is already operating after the security point in Pier A, operated by Feedbag Accessoires GmbH.

Christ, which now has five outlets at the airport, offers jewellery aimed at the intermediate price category of the Frankfurt Airport City Mall. Thomas Sabo, Pandora, Fossil, Jette, Armani and Swarovski are among the brands on offer in this 100sq m space, operated by Christ Juweliere und Uhrmacher.

The F&B offer covers 1,000sq m, and includes American, German, Thai and other Asian takeaway concepts.

The range includes a 700sq m McDonald’s, which seats over 250 people; a Thong Thai fast food concept from Thailand, offering freshly prepared items; Kebox, an Asian fast food concept that also offers Turkish doner kebabs; Hermann’s, a 50sq m outlet selling German sausage specialties ranging from curried sausage to Thuringian sausages and frankfurters. It also carries monthly specials such as Spanish chorizo or Italian salsiccia.

Among the other consumer services are Travel Needs from Relay, a news & books outlet operated by HDS Retail Deutschland, a 900sq m car rental centre, a Deutsche Bahn TravelCenter, a meeting point for Airport Experience Tours, a supermarket, hair salon and dry cleaners, plus banking facilities.

In addition, Fraport division Media Frankfurt ensures a strong advertising presence at the Frankfurt Airport City Mall. Close to the mall’s many shops, bars and restaurants it operates a large number of wall panels measuring up to 8m wide and 1.8m high as well as large column panels and illuminated display cases above the access points to the Frankfurt Airport City Mall and the adjoining regional train station.

Parallel to the mall, which will eventually cover a total of 6,000sq m when finished, runs the “Light Corridor” which is connected with the parking structures of Terminal 1. Now, for the first time, brands can rent space along its 400-metre-long backlit advertising wall.

The architectural concept of the Airport City Mall was developed by Fraport AG in collaboration with Jo Franzke Architekten of Frankfurt.
