Duty Free Americas announces Chilean market entry at Iquique

CHILE. Duty Free Americas (DFA) is to open three stores in the new Phase VII of Mall Zofri in the Iquique Free Zone.

The stores will open by January 2014, after completion of the seventh-phase extension.

Two areas of 80sq m each will be dedicated to fragrances, with one 365sq m store selling fragrances, cosmetics, liquor, confectionery and accessories.

DFA holds contracts of five to seven years for its new business.

“Iquique has shown an increased activity, receiving over 8 million visitors per year and exceeding US$219 million in retail sales,” DFA President Leon Falic told The Moodie Report.

“This commercial centre represents the best sales rate of its kind in Chile, with an average annual growth of +17%, which offers an attractive business opportunity.”

Mall Zofri allows shoppers to buy up to US$1,218 worth of goods per month, exempt from the 19% VAT rate and any Customs duties.

Along with Chilean customers, DFA will be targeting visitors from Bolivia, Peru, Paraguay, Ecuador, Argentina and Brazil looking for quality brand products at duty free prices.
