Restaurant chain Nando’s to make airport debut at London Gatwick

UK. Nando’s is to make its airport debut next summer, with a branch of the restaurant chain – known for its Portuguese flame-grilled peri-peri chicken – set to open in the South Terminal at London Gatwick.

The airport said the development was in direct response to passenger feedback, which found that Nando’s was the food brand most (33%) would like to see.

It will operate approximately 20 hours a day between 4.00am and 12.00am, serving travellers breakfast, lunch or dinner. It will seat 200 guests and create 100 new full and part-time jobs. The restaurant will cover 5,900sq ft and feature Nando’s familiar design throughout, including a range of African art.

London Gatwick Business Development Manager for Catering Charlotte Christiansen said: “We are thrilled that Nando’s will be opening its first airport restaurant at Gatwick this summer. Nando’s is a hugely popular brand with our passengers and its extensive menu is perfectly matched to airport dining as it is quick, fresh and delicious.

“More than a third of our passengers told us they would like to see a Nando’s at Gatwick so we have acted on this.”

The airport added that the opening of the restaurant will mark the start of a major F&B overhaul in the South Terminal, following on from a revamp of the offering in the North Terminal. Since 2011, Gatwick has opened 13 new food & beverage outlets across both terminals.

Nando’s Regional Director Garry Duncan said: “We’re absolutely delighted to announce we’ll be opening our first airport restaurant in London Gatwick next year.

“It’s a complete new territory for the brand, but demonstrates our forward thinking and desire to offer our fans and customers the best possible Nando’s experience whether they’re on a high street or in an airport terminal. We can’t wait to open our doors.”
