Frankfurt Airport traffic maintains its solid growth trajectory |
GERMANY. Frankfurt Airport handled just over four million passengers in January 2014, a +3.4% increase compared to the same month last year. Aircraft movements increased by +1.2% to 35,521 takeoffs and landings.
Parent company Fraport said: “Traffic development in January 2014 was influenced by growing demand in the aviation market, in combination with the low base-year effect from the corresponding month last year. In 2013, Frankfurt experienced an over-proportional number of weather-related flight cancellations.”
The new year got off to a strong start with buoyant passenger figures at the group’s equity-owned airports. In January, Xi’an Airport in northwestern China welcomed about 2.2 million passengers – a +20.1% jump year-on-year. In Peru, Lima Airport registered a +5.6% rise in traffic to about 1.3 million passengers.
Pulkovo Airport in St. Petersburg handled 831,020 passengers in January 2014 – a double-digit gain of +15.3%. Antalya Airport in Turkey received 613,274 passengers, representing an +8.5% increase year-on-year. With 279,181 passengers in the month, Hanover Airport in Lower Saxony, Germany, grew slightly (+0.2%). In Bulgaria, Varna and Burgas airports together served a total of 27,288 passengers, down -4.2% compared to the same month last year.
