UK. SSP UK has opened a new “˜street food’ offer at London Euston railway station under the Junction Urban Street Food name. It features three concepts: Big Apple Hot Dogs, The Rib Man and Beany Australia.
Junction Urban Street Food is a partnership between SSP UK and journalist, broadcaster and street food expert Richard Johnson of British Street Food.
SSP said: “With menus featuring seasonal and local produce, Junction Urban Street Food offers the excitement and authenticity of street food in a convenient “˜grab and go’ format.”
The street food offer is part of the wider £12.5 million redevelopment of Euston Station, which will provide 11,000sq ft of food & beverage space including a redeveloped balcony level, and will allow station users to eat away from the main station concourse.
Hamish Kiernan, Director of Retail at Network Rail said; “We are pleased to introduce these exciting new brands to Euston Station. They will not only cater for the 71 million travellers who use the station every year but will also provide more choice for the thousands of office workers and local people who use the station but are not travelling.”
Simon Smith, CEO of SSP UK and Ireland, added: “We have had a long and successful relationship with Network Rail Property and we are delighted to be growing our association further. We are particularly excited about partnering with Richard Johnson and bringing these concepts to Euston Station. We believe that in working with Prue of Beany Australia, Abiye of Big Apple Hot Dogs and Mark, The Rib Man, we’ve found three incredible street food operators and helped to bring them and their delicious offers to commuters at Euston Station.”
Big Apple Hot Dogs is inspired by the New York wiener. It uses natural ingredients including free-range pork and prime beef, served with fresh bread buns from local family bakers.
The Rib Man began at Brick Lane market in London. The baby-back ribs are sourced from pork that are outdoor-reared on Norfolk and Suffolk farms and then slow cooked. The Rib Man’s sauces range from smoky barbecue to a selection of hot sauces.
Beany Australia is an independent Australian run coffee company which serves artisan coffee and healthy seasonal foods, including home-made banana bread. It is said to be known for its quirky “˜hole in the wall’ locations around London – including two stores in Paddington and Regent’s Place, and an outlet converted from a shipping container on the Southbank.
To complement the street food offer, SSP has also opened its Mexican brand Mi Casa Burritos. Since SSP launched Mi Casa Burritos at London’s Victoria station in February 2012, it has gone on to open four more outlets at Manchester Airport, Birmingham New Street, Waterloo and now Euston stations.
