Ever Rich Duty Free embraced both its corporate social responsibility and the spirit of the festive season by inviting the Changxing Elementary School Atayal Band to give a Christmas performance in the airside zone of Taoyuan International Airport Terminal 2, Taipei on 23 December.
The Atayal people are one of Taiwan’s 11 aboriginal tribes, most of whom live in the mountainous area of Taoyuan City. The band comprises 19 students who used traditional aboriginal instruments to play Atayal songs and sing Christmas carols in Atayal, English and Mandarin to travellers.
Taoyuan Changxing Elementary School is the only rural elementary school in the mountainous Taoyuan area. It has long been committed to promoting and sustaining the Atayal tribal culture. The instruments are all hand-made by local artists using bamboo and wood, while the traditional tribal clothes are weaved by students’ parents.

The local children rarely leave this isolated area. Noting this, Ever Rich organised a tour so that the children could experience the many aspects of Taoyuan International Airport for the first time.
“These 19 students were guided through the airport to experience various occupations; to see its sophisticated design; to experience the augmented reality multi-media installation; and to see the amazing works done by Taiwanese artists,” Ever Rich said. “This tour is expected to open up these children’s vision and help them fulfil their dreams.”
