Australian winemaker Penfolds has released its new g4 wine blended from four vintages of its flagship Grange range.

Penfolds g4 blends Grange from the 2002, 2004, 2008 and 2016 vintages. With a RRP of A$3,500 (US$2,513) and limited to 2,500 750ml bottles, Penfolds g4 will be available from late August.
Its travel distribution network includes Beijing Capital International Airport, Haikou Riyue Plaza Duty Free Shop, Hong Kong International Airport, Qionghai Bo’ao Duty Free Shop, Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Sydney Airport.
Penfolds g4 is the second release in a Grange trilogy, which includes Penfolds g3, a 2008, 2012 and 2014 blend released in 2017. Penfolds g5 will be available in 2021.

Penfolds Chief Winemaker Peter Gago said: “These four Grange vintages are amongst our favourites of the last two decades. All so different in every sense, not just climatically. The synergistic blending of these vintages works perfectly from a quality, structural and style perspective.”
Penfolds pointed out that blending across vintages is part of the company’s winemaking philosophy. The winemaker said its latest release highlights Penfolds’ “ongoing pursuit to confidently move into the future whilst always respecting the ethos of its past”.
The original experimental 1951 Grange, created by Max Schubert, is, according to Penfolds, regarded as one of the world’s most celebrated collectable wines. In 2019, Penfolds Grange was named Australia’s Most Collected Wine by Wine Ark.
