Magical moments for CNSC as it marks its Hainan debut with Sanya opening

CHINA. CNSC this morning (30 December) celebrated one of the biggest landmarks in its 37-year history as it inaugurated the Sanya International Duty Free Plaza in Hangzhou Square.

The spectacular two-phase development is set for ultimate completion in three to five years. The Plaza is well located in the core business district of Dadonghai, one of Sanya’s most popular seaside tourism areas, and offers a wide selection of categories and brands.

The store will be further developed over coming years in two phases to cover 200,000sq m of shopping space

As with other Hainan locations, beauty products will anchor the new store, supported by a range of other in-demand categories

The Moodie Davitt Report Founder & Chairman Martin Moodie delivered a congratulatory message by video, saying: “This is a landmark moment for CNSC and also for Hainan and for China’s fast-growing duty free industry. For CNSC it represents the latest exciting chapter in a story that dates all the way back to 1983 when it became the first organisation in China to be granted a duty free licence.

Martin Moodie: “Today’s opening of Sanya International Duty Free Plaza symbolises that modernisation and offers triumphant proof that CNSC has become a world-class duty free retailer”

“In recent times CNSC has modernised impressively, opening numerous high-quality airport, downtown and land border stores across China. Today’s opening of Sanya International Duty Free Plaza symbolises that modernisation and offers triumphant proof that CNSC has become a world-class duty free retailer, offering many famous international and Chinese brands.

“Today’s opening offers further confirmation of the extraordinary success of the far-sighted offshore duty free shopping policy introduced in 2011 and greatly enhanced on July 1 this year. This policy has provided tremendous benefits to the economy and people of Hainan province and to Chinese travellers. The policy creates many jobs and helps stimulate the vital tourism sector.”

Big crowds were attracted to the store on opening day, with interest high in categories from cosmetics and wines & spirits to electronics
