‘Follow Me Shopping’ – BERetail teams with Airport Gastronomie to open new store at Weeze Airport

GERMANY. Berlin-based retailer and distributor BERetail has partnered with Airport Gastronomie to open a new ‘Follow Me Shopping’ duty free store at Germany’s Weeze Airport.

BERetail will offer strategic and operational support, including merchandising and sales and product training for the 300sq m security zone shop. The partners will focus on advising Weeze on the correct product assortment to meet the demands and preferences of holiday travellers.

Weeze is a regional airport in the west of Germany, close to the Dutch border.

Ryanair is the largest airline at the airport, with scheduled flights to over 35 destinations in Europe and Morocco.

Weeze Airport Managing Director Dr Sebastian Papst said: “Our decision in favour of BERetail was based on the expertise and full service offering of our retail partner, which itself operates duty free stores at regional airports and has detailed knowledge of the structure of smaller airports.”

BERetail Managing Partner Martin Enk underlined problems facing smaller airports in Europe which, he believes, are at risk of losing their wholesalers and retailers. “Big players,” he said, “have had to become more efficient, which severely limits their previous value proposition.

“We will fill this gap by focusing on the individual needs of each airport. With the help of an international group of travel retail specialised suppliers, airports can source regional as well as international brands that make sense for each location.

“Airports can also order smaller quantities through our strategic supplier network, which minimises procurement risks.”

BERetail and Weeze subsidiary Airport Gastonomie will ensure that the airport store’s product line-up targets holiday travellers appropriately

BERetail operates stores at various airports as well as in inner-city locations with strong tourist appeal.

Its national and international product range includes duty free items, along with destination and souvenir lines, confectionery and food.

As reported, BERetail opened an innovative niche concept FRAAS & Friends at the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport late last year.
