Craft spirits specialist Lafferty & Sons has launched Highland Coo, a blended Scotch whisky which was revealed at last week’s TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes.
The Fife-based company, which boasts Italian, Irish and Scottish roots, said its latest expression is “made in Scotland with a Mediterranean flavour”. Blending malt and grain whiskies, Highland Coo is described as rich and fragrant on the palate, with notes of malted barley, apple pie and cinnamon.
Highland Coo joins two other Lafferty & Sons’ spirits: Upperhand – an Irish Gin “with an Italian heart” and featuring Mediterranean botanicals including juniper, dill, basil and lemon – and the “regenerating” Lafferty’s London Dry Gin.
Lafferty & Sons evolved after the Irish Lafferty family moved from Donegal to Scotland at the end of the 19th century. Some family members worked as contractors in coalmines, while others opted for the spirits industry. The family firm has taken a major step forward with its current owners: Claudia Gamberucci, from Tuscany but a family descendant, and her Veneto-born husband Alberto Borin. The couple are determined to produce a range of “unforgettable” spirits with “humility, passion and tenacity… blending culture, food, art, design and the magical mystery of distillation, with an Italian twist”. |
