Images of the Day: Vibrant multimedia installations dazzle in Hong Kong Airport T1

The new Waterfall Gardens bring a stunning new visual and sensorial impact to Hong Kong International Airport

Our regular feature celebrates memorable scenes, moments, launches and campaigns related to the global aviation and travel retail sphere.

HONG KONG. It’s fair to say that Hong Kong International Airport and all connected with it have had a pretty miserable time of it during the COVID-19 era, in the face of a devastating and sustained slump in business. But here is something to cheer passengers – and the people that work there – up, as we finally see some notable momentum in traffic recovery.

The digital screen at what is now known as the Crystal Elevator will show video and images that capture the essence of Hong Kong

Operator Airport Authority Hong Kong has continued to invest in the consumer experience, despite passenger numbers remaining at a fraction of 2019 levels. And there is no better evidence of that than these spectacular images of new vibrant multimedia installations in Terminal 1.

Visitors are encouraged to interact with the vertical and floor screens by touching the waterfall and stepping on the stones of a creek, or simply relaxing by the ponds

The elevator at the centre of the Meeters and Greeters Hall now houses the captivating ‘Crystal Elevator’, with its crystalline façade screening digital video and images related to Hong Kong as well as themes of travel, nature and entertainment.

Meanwhile, the ‘Waterfall Gardens’ in the North and South Arrivals Halls synthesise the sights and sounds of nature such as a cascading waterfall, flowing creeks and crystal-clear ponds.

There is a business element to the new installations too, of course, with the various digital screens also having the capability to carry DOOH (digital out-of-home) advertisements.
