Blue Caterpillar has been appointed official distributor of Mijenta Tequila in travel retail in the Americas.
The additive-free and B-Corp certified tequila is available throughout the USA and in selected markets globally. According to Blue Caterpillar, Mijenta’s next phase of expansion will include developments in travel retail across the Americas with an initial focus on listings at leading international travel hubs.
“Entering the travel retail channel in the Americas will increase visibility and exposure to core consumer audiences travelling between top domestic and international destinations,” Blue Caterpillar said.
Blue Caterpillar Co-Founder and CEO Michael Gebrael said: “We are thrilled to be partnering with Mijenta Tequila to bring this super-premium brand to top travel retail locations in the Americas.
“Tequila is one of the fastest-growing categories in the spirits industry and, based on the amazing reception to the brand since it launched, we are confident that Mijenta will be a hit with our customers. We look forward to working closely with Mijenta to introduce this exceptional spirit to travellers around the world.”
Mijenta Tequila Co-founder and Lead Investor [and former Bacardi Limited CEO] Michael Dolan commented: “The core consumer of super-premium tequila is the global traveller, which is why for rapidly growing, high-quality brands like Mijenta, travel retail offers the ability to build our presence in an influential channel and stay in front of key audiences.
“With consumers growing more informed and sophisticated about tequila, seeking authenticity, craftsmanship and transparency, additive-free tequilas like Mijenta are resonating strongly. We are excited to partner with Blue Caterpillar to seize an important opportunity to engage these consumers as they travel between top destinations in the USA and abroad.”
Mijenta Tequila features fully mature Blue Weber agave from the highlands of Jalisco, a region in Mexico renowned for its rich red clay soil and microclimate. Crafted by Maestra Tequilera Ana Maria Romero, the Mijenta line-up includes three expressions. Its Blanco is described as “aromatic, elegant and complex”, with notes of cantaloupe, honey and cinnamon.
Reposado is aged up to six months in a blend of American white oak and European acacia casks, to offer a “more mature and fuller expression”. Mijenta’s Añejo Gran Reserva offers an intense and well-blended flavour profile. The ultra-premium product is aged for a minimum of 18 months in four types of barrels: American white oak, French oak, French acacia casks and cherry.
Mijenta is built around core values of environmental sustainability and giving back to the community. From inception, Mijenta’s operations, procurement practices, sourcing and packaging have been structured to be as environmentally responsible as possible while also delivering benefits to local communities.
Mijenta is fully carbon neutral, and all packaging elements are eco-friendly, from the labels and boxes down to the sealing ring in the bottle cap. Working with ClimatePartner, the company has to date offset nearly 900,000kg of CO2, through which it has helped to fund community and sustainability focused programmes in Mexico, Colombia and Brazil.
Its B-Corp certification in August 2022 marked a major milestone in the brand’s journey and “further validates Mijenta’s core ethos”, Blue Caterpillar noted.
